Scroll-Stopping Brand Identity + Label Design for Scalp Water Launch
Project Brief
LODE WTR launched as a new scalp water that “replaces shampoo,” entering a beauty category dominated by calm, wellness-coded brands. The goal was to create a unisex identity built for feed-first commerce, with a visual system strong enough to stop the scroll and stay legible across every scale, from a thumbnail to a bottle cap. The scope covered a full visual identity system (logo suite, color, typography, iconography, brand guidelines) and a custom label for a 12oz bottle to bring the system to shelf.
Creative Challenge
This was a from-scratch launch in a saturated category where most competitors blend together visually. LODE WTR needed to look like nothing else in the aisle and nothing else in the feed, without defaulting to the usual “beige clean beauty” cues. The identity also had to balance edge with clarity: bold enough to be scroll-stopping, but structured enough to work across packaging requirements, small-format applications, and future extensions.
On top of that, the product story challenges a deeply ingrained habit. “Replaces shampoo” is a high-friction claim, so the brand needed a system that could communicate confidence and function quickly, while leaving room for proof-forward messaging and education over time.
Approach
- Anchored the system with a custom chiseled wordmark built around a consistent angular logic, then extended it into an LW submark, a SCALP WATER badge, and a matching iconography pack designed to scale cleanly across touchpoints.
- Built a minimal, high-contrast palette (Moss, Black, White) with Chartreuse used as a controlled accent to keep the brand sharp and recognizable in fast-scrolling environments.
- Captured the full system in a brand book to lock in rules for logo usage, typography, color, and application consistency.
- Designed the custom 12oz label as a direct extension of the identity system, ensuring it works from “in-hand” product shots to print production requirements and future line growth.
Results
A cohesive, feed-first identity and packaging system that positions LODE WTR as a category disruptor: unisex, confident, and engineered for legibility at any scale. The final deliverables included a complete brand identity system and a custom 12oz label design that carries the same visual logic from digital brand touchpoints to shelf-ready packaging.
