A Shopify Store for a Candy Brand, Built to Grow

Project Brief

Samesies is a new candy brand making bars with whole-food ingredients and 10g of protein. Our goal was a Shopify store that carried the packaging’s vintage candy look, could grow beyond their first bars, and was easy for the founder to run on her own.

Creative Challenge

The store had to feel bold and playful, like vintage candy packaging and candy shops, while growing from two bars into a full catalog. Midway through, the brand’s name, logo style, and color palette changed, shifting the look and tone of the whole site. The early structure still fit the brand, so we kept the build moving and carried it into a final design round. Then the bars needed more time for formulation with no firm date, so we came up with a plan that allowed the site to launch as planned.

Approach

  • Worked with the founder on launching with merch first, so the store could go live without waiting on the bars.
  • Added custom toggles, including a Coming Soon toggle for each bar, so the founder can change things across the store without code.
  • Built flexible product page layouts and two collection templates, one for candy bars and one for everything else, like merch.
  • Carried the vintage candy packaging into the site with outlined type and stickers that spin and wiggle on hover or tap. If you see Tootie, give her a hover.
  • Suggested ways to use product imagery throughout the site, including the bars as section dividers, and requested specific shots.
  • Follow-up email: Klaviyo welcome, abandoned cart, and abandoned checkout flows.

What I Delivered

Desktop and mobile designs across three rounds (the last for the updated logo and new brand assets) and a full Shopify build (12 pages), plus custom sections and toggles, two collection templates, Klaviyo flows, handoff videos, and post-launch support. The store launched with merch, and the founder is comfortable running it and ready to add the bars when they are finished.

Kevin was absolutely wonderful to work with! His attention to detail is incredible, and he was always highly responsive, thoughtful, and attentive throughout the entire process. He went above and beyond to bring our vision to life, creating a beautiful, seamless, and highly functional website. I couldn’t be happier with the result and would highly recommend him!
